Opportunities

This section is devoted to possibilities for members to offer or seek: tips, advice, help and items to buy, lend or sell. Participating parties alone are responsible for all aspects of any transactions. No responsibility concerning the transaction will be borne by The Club. Members will not be charged for the use of the site for these purposes, but the Club would welcome any contributions from the beneficiary of these transactions. The Committee alone has the right to decide whether any content will be accepted or rejected and the period over which the content will be displayed.

Members are reminded that any content will also be visible to non-members. Therefore, unless participants give their permission to enter their contact details, all contacts between parties are channelled through Alex who will pass on enquires, offers etc. as appropriate.

Tip: Downsizing?

Are you struggling to rid yourself of all kinds of things that simply take up space in your wardrobe, cupboards, shelves etc.? Maybe Heidi Bigmore can help you as she is always on the lookout for items for her shop that are no longer needed but are simply too good to throw out. Give her a call (see Committee page for details) and have a chat with her.

Tip: LIBBY for English Books

Want to save yourself some cash? If so, you might want to try the Libby App which will give you free access to thousands of books in English including some of the latest. Just visit the local Schaffhausen library and ask for a card with access number and code. Once you have downloaded the App (http://www.bibliotheken-schaffhausen.ch → Overdrive → Libby App) and entered your card number, you only have to enter your four digit password (relating to your date of birth and so difficult to forget) and you are ready to go.

The book you download onto your iPad, mobile phone, Kindle, computer etc. is available to you for three weeks after which it is removed electronically. Couldn’t be easier. Alex did this at the Agnesenschütte library. The librarian was very helpful; the only problem that arose was apparently the amount of time required for the card and code numbers to become valid – possibly a couple of hours.

Note: The site works like a normal library where some books may already be out “on loan” and you have to reserve them when they are “returned”.

Another possibility is to visit the library website (http://www.bibliotheken-schaffhausen.ch) to access the titles of hard-copy English books held by the library and to reserve these for collection.

Lending:

The Club has started to provide a book table at some events at which members will have the opportunity to borrow or lend books to other members. These opportunities will be mentioned in the invitations to events. Hope the idea catches on.
